Thank you Lexington Law Firm for sponsoring this post. A high service partner and consumer advocate that will help you fight for the credit you deserve!
Let’s talk about something that affects most of us but nobody really wants to talk about. Credit score! Let me tell you about our experience.
When we were very young, we didn’t always know how to make the right choices, or how to keep track of any mistake that might have happened with our credit. One thing came after another until we ended up having to file for bankruptcy. It was devastating and I felt like I had failed my family in every possible way.
The years after that were hard, everything we ever tried to do had some sort of connection with our bad credit score. We were denied loans and credit cards and some times even rental agreements. For a new family, in the military that was a lot to deal with, we needed to learn and educate ourselves. Eventually we made it through and we have been able to repair our bad credit. I am so happy and proud to say that now we are saving up to buy our own home!
I almost can’t even believe that I am saying that! There was a time when it was almost impossible to get approved for a rental apartment and now we are confidently saving to apply for a home! Our home!
We started learning, we were surprised to find out that we are not alone in this. Every year millions of Americans face the same issues we did. They are denied loans for homes and cars due to bad credit scores or errors on their credit reports. Even when it’s just an error, on average, these errors can take four months to correct. How crazy is that?
So let’s all get educated and be proactive with keeping our credit score on a good level, or if it isn’t right now, then you have so much power to get that fixed!
Why do we have a credit score?
Our credit score is calculated by a proprietary algorithm that uses our credit files in the main credit bureaus, to calculate our lending risk. When reading up on the Lexington Law Firm site, I learned so much! Someone’s credit score can range from 300 to 850 and 90 percent of the financial institution, like lenders, landlords, etc, base their decisions on our credit score.
Our credit score can also affect employment opportunities. For Us in the military, a bad credit can affect the security clearance level that can be obtained.
You can see now how it is actually important to keep an eye on our credit score. And though it might take time to repair a bad credit score, it is well worth it and not impossible to do.
If you are in this position, for one reason or another, you can know that there are professionals like Lexington Law Firm that are ready to help you and guide you so that the process doesn’t have to be so overwhelming for you.
Repairing your credit score
So you are ready to take charge and make your credit score better! But where to start?
Acts such as The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA), Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA), The Service Members Civil Relief Act (SCRA), The Truth in Lending Act (TILA), and even the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), give consumers like you and me, the legal right to dispute any mistakes in our credit. While that is amazing, we were very intimidated by trying to understand the complexity of it.
Credit repair professionals like Lexington Law Firm understand every part of the consumer protection laws making them able to to help every day consumers to understand their rights and use every possible law to fix credit errors.
