This is a sponsored post that I wrote for Harris Teeter and Blog Meets Brand, but as always, all the opinions and ideas are my own.
Have you ever felt like you wish it was easier and cheaper to get on a roll with eating healthy as a family? Me too! And many times I have started only to then give up because I wasn’t Organized or informed and that turned the whole thing int a stressful and very expensive thing that I dreaded every time I needed to go shopping.
So one day I decided it was time to do this seriously and make sure I could fully come through with it. Here are some steps I took. I’m hoping that it can help some of you, and I am also hoping to hear your thoughts and ideas. Because I believe that when we help one another, we can always do better!
Easy Steps To Eating Healthy Without Spending A Fortune
1. Make a Plan- Be intentional about what you will buy, take the time to make a menu and commit to following through with it. Don’t be afraid to be very specific with each meal and snack, that way you won’t have extra “surprise” expenses. Write it down.
2. Keep it simple- I know we all want to always put together beautiful colorful and perfect meals, and that’s ok! But it is important to be realistic with our goals so that we can meet them all! try to choose a few meals that have a few ingredients in common, so that you don’t end up buying a lot of ingredients that will forever be forgotten in your refrigerator or pantry.
3. Do your research- Don’t just blindly go out shopping to any and every place! find out where you want to go and why! When looking, I came across my new favorite store for organic products: Harris Teeter. When doing my research, I found that Harris Teeter has a full line of private label organic products that are free from GMOs, synthetic fertilizers, artificial flavors and colors, as well as antibiotics and growth hormones. So that right there already had me going! But when I looked some more, I also realized that their organic products are also incredibly affordable! So next came a fun shopping challenge! I had the boys keep the math so that we could see, how many healthy meals we could make with $20! You read that right!
Here is the simple menu we created, I wanted to make sure that the boys were involved so that I knew that they would eat every meal gladly.
Simple Healthy Menu:
Breakfast: Apple cinnamon oatmeal.
Lunch: Cheese quesadillas and fruit.
Dinner: Rice and beans with cheese and a fried egg.
Breakfast: scrambled eggs with homemade salsa
Lunch: Left Over rice and beans burritos.
Dinner: Rotini pasta with cheese.
Baked apple cinnamon oatmeal bites.
You can imagine how shocked we all were to see that in fact, we could buy healthy and organic groceries, for $20 and that it was not just going to be for half a meal!
How do you plan your healthy meals? what are your favorite organic products? Tell me about it in the comments! Will you take on the challenge? I would love to hear about your Harris Teeter adventures!
